Movie Reviews ..
Good Night and Good Luck is based on the real life happenings
of the journalist Edward R. Murrow and the Republican Senator
Joseph McCarthy. George Clooney not only stars in the movie,
but is also the director. It is filmed in black and white to
capture the times of broadcast journalism in America during
the 1950s.
Edward R. Murrow was a broadcast journalist for CBS that took
on the Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy, seeking to reveal
the truth of the anti-Communist witch hunt that the senator
pursued. Murrow was put under extreme pressure by Senator McCarthy,
but Murrow believed that integrity should prevail, regardless
of the government or corporate consequences that he was threatened
with.
The movie succeeds on several levels; The acting is first class
by everyone, with David Strathairn playing the journalist Murrow
exceptionally well. The black and white film captures the era
that the movie was set in, without looking dull. While the snippets
of real film from the 1950s makes it all so much more believable.
Good Night and Good Luck (this was how Edward Murrow ended each
broadcast) has established George Clooney as a competent director
that is not afraid to take on challenging topics.

OK"

As much as I'm a fan of George Clooney, I just wasn't really
impressed with this movie. I almost feel guilty too, as most
critics seem to give this film the thumbs up!
George definately is not afraid to take on challenging films
though, so he should be applauded for Good Night.

Clooney gets better with age!"

Everything about this movie impressed me. George has really
shown that he is not just a pretty face, but an amazing director,
able to make complex issues interesting and entertaining.
I thought I would be bored with the black and white film but
I hardly even noticed it was black and white!. It was also
very educational at the same time. Not being from that era,
I didn't know much about what went on, so.. Bravo George!!.
